Young Drummers Competition 2023

Golden Drum Festival

Slovenian Tourist Board and Golden Drum invite you to participate in the Young Drummers Competition for the best and most creative poster or poster series on the topic:

A date with a masterpiece

Competition opening: 10 March 2023
Deadline for submissions:
12 September 2023 20 September 2023
Shortlist announced: 2 October 2023 at 8 AM (CET)

Entry format: poster

Entry fee: 50 EUR (VAT not included)

The creative challenge of this year's competition is to design an innovative and inspiring visual invitation to a date with a masterpiece and thus arouse interest in discovering Slovenian culture and art.

A single day in Slovenia can be all you ever wished for. A philharmonic concert in the famous Gallus Hall - or dancing until dawn with the world-famous DJ Umek. A walk through the National Gallery to Slovenia's Mona Lisa, Kofetarca - or through the streets with urban graffiti of the ZEK crew. Let yourself be enchanted by a ballet solo at the Maribor Opera and Ballet - or dance in the middle of the street at a contemporary dance festival. Admire the eternal masterpieces of the architect Plečnik - or the exciting boldness of contemporary architects. Explore the “it” piece of industrial design, the Lolita Lamp by Nika Zupanc in the MAO museum - or the millennia-old Neanderthal flute in the National Museum. Hunt for urban legends at Metelkova - or listen to the legend of Predjama Castle. Dive into the depths to see the sunken Rex ship - or fly into space at the Center of Space Technologies Noordung. The contrasts of art and culture experiences here are truly endless.

When was the last time you took a Saturday morning stroll through the historic towns and instead of looking at window puppets, gazed at the framed masterpieces of the galleries, the ancient discoveries safely tucked away in the museums? The creative challenge of this year's competition for young drummers is to arouse a desire among the target audience to discover the ancient and contemporary treasures of Slovenian culture and art. Your task is to create a poster or a series of posters that will encourage visitors to a date with a masterpiece.

Cultural and urban experiences are one of the key products of Slovenian tourism, and Slovenian creators are known for their creations at home and abroad. Did you know that the Slovenian animated film Granny's Sexual Life recently won the prestigious French Cesar Film Award? Or that Slovenia will be the guest of honour at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair? Also, a new cultural and artistic centre named Rog is being built in Ljubljana, as well as a new national and university library. What is more, Nova Gorica, together with Gorizia, will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025... There are plenty of reasons to bring the spotlight to Slovenian culture and the arts.

The decision, taken by the Board of the Slovenian Advertising Chamber and Golden Drum leadership, was based on Russia's unjustifiable and illegal invasion of Ukraine, grave violation of international law, and the support of Belarus in those acts.
