The Dictionary of Stolen Words
Creative idea
We created unique medium, characterized by the accumulation of word meanings (dictionaries) and utilized it to fight against disinformation. Why? In Slovakia, the line between truth and falsehood is becoming increasingly blurred. Politicians are literally weaponizing Slovak vocabulary. To discredit the opposition, they 'steal' words like 'fascist,' 'peace,' and others, twisting their meanings to fit false narratives. To preserve the original meanings for future generations, we created a unique publication – The Dictionary of Stolen Words. The dictionary got into the largest bookshop chain in Slovakia, received approval from the State Institute of Linguistics, and is now used as an educational tool.
