100 years ago natural meadows covered 30% of Latvia’s territory. Nowadays natural meadows in Latvia are going extinct, with only 0.9% remaining, threatening not just plants but also cultural traditions tied to them. To raise awareness, The Latvian Fund for Nature launched a campaign “Let the Crowns flourish!” at the Summer Solstice – right when Latvians willingly go into the wilderness of nature in search of natural flowers for their flower crowns. The campaign was based on a challenge: to create flower crowns traditionally by using natural plants only.
