Creative idea

In every country, language and culture are closely intertwined. They can only coexist together, one cannot flourish without the other. The Slovene language is unique in that it is the most archaic of the Slavic languages. It has evolved and changed the least throughout the years from that language family. It’s rare for a language to not change much over the years, which is why the focus of our poster is to showcase this unique feature of Slovene. By staying closer to its roots, the language itself has become a sort of cultural heritage for the country. To showcase this, we have chosen to focus on the old names of the months. While the popular latin names are used in Slovenia, the country also retains archaic words that are used as names for the months. To visualize how they have become a part of Slovenian culture, we’ve presented them as items, preserved in a jar. This is how the main message is conveyed – by conserving the language as a whole, it has become a key part of Slovenian culture, because it is able to carry more old traditions that are often forgotten in other parts of the world, where languages evolve more and faster.
