Orphanages are history
Creative idea
By 2026, Hope and Homes for Children had closed 81 orphanages in Romania since 1998. One orphanage was left, holding the last 48 children, and the country needed 4 more family homes to move them out. Orphanages Are History was built to do two things: help fund those last homes, and mark the moment so Romania remembers what it took to get here. The campaign used real objects kids had in orphanages — a mirror, a numbered locker, a rulebook, a lock — each one standing for something children living in cold institutional orphanages were denied: affection, identity, memories, privacy.
