How it feels to bring cash on vacation
Creative idea
Gen Zs yearn to explore like locals, not stick out like tourists. Yet, the old habit of withdrawing foreign cash 'just in case' lingers. Paper bills, foreign coins, and local exchange kiosks immediately slow down your rhythm and mark you as an outsider. Relying on physical cash in a contactless world feels out of place and can disconnect you from the experience. This campaign dramatizes the redundancy of carrying cash abroad by taking that feeling of being out-of-place to its visual extreme. We place young Slovenian travellers in full traditional folk attire right in the middle of modern, fast-paced global hotspots. The goal is to show how effortless tap-to-pay keeps you moving in sync with the modern world, while carrying cash turns you into a walking anomaly. By contrasting heritage clothing with bustling international streetscapes, we remind young travellers that Mastercard is accepted and trusted everywhere. It eliminates the need to ever carry foreign bills around. The idea is executed across a series of three posters. The first poster shows a young woman standing in traditional Slovenian garb among thousands of commuters on Times Square. The headline highlights the awkward contrast between modern transit and outdated payment habits. On the second poster we see a young man in classic folk vest and knee boots walking near the Roman Colosseum. It drives home that even in historical capitals, physical cash belongs in the past. Last but not least, on the third poster a traveller wearing a traditional dress stands out at the world's busiest pedestrian intersection in Shibuya, Tokyo. Even in remote destinations, Mastercard has your back. Bringing unnecessary physical cash just marks you further as an outlier amongst a sea of potential tourists. The message is clear: skip the cash, tap your Mastercard, and fit seamlessly like a local in every city you visit.
