What we remember most when we return from a trip are often the moments when we stepped outside the plan. Entering a completely different world underwater for the first time, unexpectedly making friends with a cat on the streets of Istanbul, or trying a dish whose name we do not even know… These experiences may last only a few minutes, stretch into hours, or stay with us for years. We place Mastercard’s contactless payment speed alongside these experiences. From the moment we tap a card or phone on the POS terminal to the moment the transaction is approved and the confirmation sound is heard, the process typically takes no more than 2 seconds. Because the moment we decide to experience something new, every extra step that comes in between can interrupt the flow of that moment.
