Mastercard Playground
Creative idea
We travel because we want to experience something different. A street we have never walked down, a dish we have never tasted, a place we did not know existed. The best part of being somewhere new is not knowing exactly what comes next. Every unfamiliar destination holds something waiting to be discovered. But exploring comes with small interruptions. New currencies, unfamiliar payment habits and the constant question of whether and how we can pay pull us out of the experience. The more attention payment demands, the less attention we have for the place around us. When payment disappears from the experience, the world starts feeling playable again. Mastercard Playground turns every destination into a world waiting to be unlocked. Not because access to it needs to be bought, but because it has yet to be experienced. Barcelona is locked until you wander through it. A food market is locked until you taste it. A hidden music venue is locked until you find it. Every new experience becomes another level, side quest or discovery waiting for your next move. Mastercard’s role is simple: one tap keeps the game moving. With secure, intuitive and widely accepted payments happening almost invisibly, travellers can move from one experience to the next without breaking the moment. The tap doesn’t unlock the payment. It unlocks what comes after it. The visual system brings this idea to life by turning destinations into playable worlds. Familiar landmarks, local experiences and unexpected discoveries become locked territories waiting to be explored, with the Mastercard tap acting as the recurring interaction that moves travellers forward. From Tokyo to anywhere else in the world, every execution poses the same irresistible question: what will you unlock next?
